TREATING INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER TO COMPLIANCE

An ETP that actually meets CPCB / SPCB limits — not just on paper.

An Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) treats process wastewater generated by manufacturing — dyeing liquor, chemical process water, pharmaceutical process streams, food processing wash water, or metal finishing rinse water — to bring it within Central Pollution Control Board and State Pollution Control Board discharge limits, or to a quality suitable for recycling back into the process. Ions India designs ETPs around the specific pollutant profile of your industry rather than a generic template, because a dyeing effluent, a pharma effluent, and a food-processing effluent each demand different chemistry and different treatment stages.

HOW WE DESIGN AROUND YOUR EFFLUENT

Full lab analysis → tailored treatment train

Our process begins with a full effluent characterization — BOD, COD, TSS, pH, oil and grease, and industry-specific parameters like color, chromium, or heavy metals — followed by a treatment scheme that typically combines physico-chemical treatment (screening, equalization, coagulation-flocculation, and clarification) with biological treatment (MBBR, SBR or activated sludge) and, where required, tertiary polishing through filtration and activated carbon. For industries with high color or dissolved solids, such as textile dyeing, we frequently recommend advanced options like Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) with reverse osmosis and evaporation.

INDUSTRIES WE SERVE

Built for your CPCB category, not a generic template.

We have built ETPs for textile and dyeing units, pharmaceutical and API manufacturers, chemical and specialty chemical plants, food and beverage processors, dairies, metal finishing and electroplating units, and general engineering manufacturers. Each sector comes with a distinct compliance category under CPCB classification.

TX
HIGH COLOR • TDS
Textile & Dyeing Units

High color and dissolved solids. ZLD with RO and evaporation is frequently recommended for full water recovery.

PH
COMPLEX ORGANICS
Pharmaceutical & API Manufacturers

Complex process streams with variable organic loads, solvents and API residues.

CH
HEAVY METALS
Chemical & Specialty Chemical Plants

Chemical process water with heavy metals, high COD and diverse chemistry.

FB
HIGH BOD
Food & Beverage Processors

Food processing wash water with high BOD, oil and grease.

DA
FAT • PROTEIN
Dairies

Dairy effluent with fat, protein and nutrient load requiring oil removal.

MF
CHROME • CYANIDE
Metal Finishing & Electroplating Units

Metal finishing rinse water with chromium, cyanide and heavy metals.

Compliance and Documentation Support

Beyond building the plant, we help clients understand what Pollution Control Board inspectors will expect to see: consistent effluent quality reports, proper sludge disposal records, and a plant that is actually operated as designed rather than bypassed during inspections.

  • ✓ Consent to Operate renewal support
  • ✓ Consistent effluent reports & sludge disposal records

Long-Term Reliability

An ETP that is undersized, poorly maintained, or built with substandard components becomes a liability rather than a compliance asset — frequent breakdowns, non-compliant discharge, and eventual regulatory penalties. We build with corrosion-resistant materials.

  • ✓ Corrosion-resistant construction matched to chemistry
  • ✓ AMC catches performance drift before violation

Working with CETPs and Common Infrastructure

Many industrial clusters route pretreated effluent to a shared CETP rather than discharging independently. Our design focuses on meeting CETP's specific inlet norms — often stricter than final discharge norms — so your unit avoids penalty.

  • ✓ Meeting CETP inlet norms — stricter than final discharge
  • ✓ Coordination with CETP operating norms

Retrofits and Capacity Expansion

As production scales up, many clients find existing ETP was sized for smaller operation. We retrofit and expand plants — adding parallel trains, upgrading dosing and aeration capacity, or introducing tertiary stage.

  • ✓ Parallel trains & aeration capacity upgrade
  • ✓ Cost-effective vs full plant replacement

FAQ SECTION

ETP Cost, ZLD & Compliance — answered

Most asked questions about ETP design, Zero Liquid Discharge and Pollution Control Board compliance — straight answers from Ions India.

01 What determines the cost of an ETP?
+
ETP cost depends primarily on daily effluent volume, pollutant load and complexity (for example, dye-heavy textile effluent costs more to treat than simple food-processing wash water), the treatment technology selected, and whether Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) is required.
02 Is Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) mandatory for all industries?
+
ZLD is mandatory for specific high-pollution categories in several states, particularly for larger textile, dyeing and certain chemical units, but requirements vary by state and industry classification. Confirm your obligation with your State Pollution Control Board.
03 How often should ETP effluent be tested?
+
Most SPCB require periodic effluent testing, commonly monthly or quarterly depending on industry category and plant size. Ions India's AMC clients receive support scheduling and preparing for this testing.
04 Can an existing ETP be upgraded instead of replaced?
+
In many cases, yes. Adding a tertiary stage, upgrading dosing systems, or retrofitting a biological stage can bring an underperforming ETP back within compliance without full replacement. Ions India assesses before recommending upgrade vs rebuild.
05 What industries need an ETP the most?
+
Textile and dyeing, pharmaceutical and chemical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, dairies, and metal finishing or electroplating units generate the most complex wastewater and are most commonly required to install an ETP.
